Hmmmm... I guess it's all in the eye (or, in this case, the ear) of the
beholder. I myself think ADV did a fairly good job of dubbing the series
myself (though I'm still looking for a rental copy of a subbed version...
just for th' experience. =) )

Granted, that's at the beginning of the series, where the dub voice actors
are still trying to flesh out their characters. It happens to most series
at the beginning of their dubs (just take a listen to UY dubbed volume 1
*shudder* or Ranma 1/2 OAV 1 dubbed *double shudder*) Later on, they do get
a little more comfortable in their roles. (I still think that the way they
dubbed Rei's speech in ep 14 was a little odd, though. *shrug*)

Well, IMHO, Shinji doesn't sound _that_ terribly bad; he's made to sound
like a rather shy kid still in his early teens, where his voice is s'posed
to squeak like that. Also along that line, Misato was given her
"serious/cute" voice to kinda emphasize the fact that she is young even for
a captain.
But then, again... I may be wrong. =)
