Besides Unit-01 needing to be go berserk and make an easy escape for writers when
they can't figure out how to destroy an angel, that could be right ^_^  Yui's
disappearance was when Gendou turned into a cold person I don't think there was
any neglect toward Shinji before then.

After being disgruntled with society, he could turn cold.  Look how Misato turned
out:  hated her father, yet became what he was.
