I haven't heard the dubs...but I can think of no one, Hollywood actor or
anyone else, who can convey the depth of Shinji's emotions. Let them just
try for Rei and Asuka...

Agreed. Almost all dubs I've heard (heck, they even mess up RPG's!) suffer
from "American cartoon" syndrome...that is, they all sound like a bad remake
of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. ^_^
