was the third impact the same as the human completion project?  
     
## Not exactly, but close. The Third Impact in EOE seems to be a bit 
## different from what SEELE has in mind. From TV, SEELE seems to want 
## to use Lilith and the Spear. And they didn't seem to have Rei in
## mind. Also EVA-01 was not in the picture until the Spear was lost. 
## In EOE, *both* EVA-01 and the Spear played a large part in the
## impact. So I dare to say that the impact is different from what SEELE 
## originally planned (they changed their plan a few times, but 
## I don't think that they planned a HCP which involves Lilith, Rei 
## EVA-01 and the Spear??).
     
i ask this because in ep 25 and 26, it seems that the goal of the h.c.p. 
was to bring the human race together, to make the sea of strangers no 
longer strangers. didn't shinji, in the end of the t.v. series, become part 
of the community by learning to accept himself? (of course, i could be 
completely mistaken, as i've often been, in which case, ignore this 
letter).  if the goal of the h.c.p. was to unify humanity, then didn't the 
rei-lilith creature reach this goal?  i mean, how much better can you know 
those around you than to be the same entity as them?

## We have a lot of debate and discussions a few weeks ago. I think I have

## thing of losing the individuality. Some don't like the brainwashing
## approach that one goes through to achieve the complementation.

and if this is the case, did the wound that unit 01 leave on the rei-lilith 
creature stop the h.c.p.?  in the end, was teh third impact successful, or 
was it stopped?  

## Failed, I would say. The end result is something quite odd. It definitely
## did not continue to its natural end. 

and if it was, then what is going on afterwards?  have the other souls 
returned to their corporeal state, like shinji and asuka?  

## Good question. I don't think they returned to any corporeal state. 
## I think they all merge into the sea of LCL. The question is what is
## the status of the souls. Are they contained as a whole entity in
## the sea of LCL? Or are they still exist as seperate selves in it?
## Perhaps the souls just disappeared (go to heaven)?

## What I am sure is, only Shinji and Asuka stay in human form at the end.
## Presumably the whole creation process will start again, with Shinji and
## Asuka as the new Adam and Eve.

if they are the only ones on earth, not only was the h.c.p. stopped, but the 
complete opposite was brought about:  two people stranded in an isolated 
world...  although, on second thought, the smaller the group, the easier it 
is to interact. :)
