I'm not so sure about that.  Rei's role in the third impact did not
start to come to her until her third incarnation.  Recoginition of those
(genetic?) memories brought about a number of extreme changes in her
mentality and actions.  If she knew exactly what she was without having
had to blunder through it by herself, I imagine things would have been a
bit different.

<< A more emotional Rei may have given her a tremendous power, perhaps
just as dangerous as the disablement of Asuka- the power to question.
Rather than just blindly obey Gendou's orders, she may begin to start
asking what the purpose of it is; and then perhaps refuse to or delay
executing them. >>

I don't doubt much that the 15th Angel would've made for a more
assertive Rei, but I can't even begin to imagine how that combined with
a highly unusual predestined purpose in life would have have affected
her.  Where she was ignorant both of her emotions and purpose before,
now both have been artifically given to her in the space of a few
moments.  Perhaps her new found feelings for Shinji would have made her
refuse to fulfill her purpose all together.  That would've made for an
interesting end to EoE to say the least.
