>This message is adressed to those of you who got really involved in the
understanding (well, its attempt;) of Eva's philosophical and real inspirations.
>
>I read in here a while ago some lines about an American writer who had
written a book having similarities to Eva's themes. (it had something to do
with children or something...)
>I'd be glad if someone could repeat its name and the book title.
>

>Anyway, I'm SURE that I'm not the only one to have diven quite deep into
personal research. The problem is that I don't like to speak about it in
public, for several reasons that pushed those authors, and Anno himself, to
keep a certain degree of 'hermetism'. --I think those who know the same
sources as me understand--
>
>Eva's concepts can go very far, can be brough to highly dangerous
conclusions both for our reputation among 'normal and average citizens' and
for our moral -fragile- health.
>
>I don't want to defend any thesis of this kind against the outraged
morality of any amateur of Eva as a surprising Anime serie. And we should
never do this : the knowledge of Eva's _deep_ interpretations, as well as
the knowledge of its 'surrounding spirit' (I'm talking about few authors'
moralities), are things that one must approach by himself, otherwise it
can't be understood or accepted.
>That's why I insist to say that, even though it's not some things we easily
talk about in ML for example, Eva's inspirations are really clear to a
number of persons.
>

>Well, just because I think some people may be looking only for the
possibility of 'diving' into Eva more and more profoundly, I'll give some
indications for further researches, only for those who really want so :
>You all know that France in Nadia had a great role because of the basic
story's main inspirator -and I suppose one of Anno's liked authors- : J.
Verne. So no one will be surprised to admit that there must be a few
German authors' ideas in Eva, isn't it ?
>I think that it isn't a mistery anymore that C.G. Jung's concepts are
highly used in Eva. That's a kind of lecture really interesting for those
who can find a good book about Jung's ideas and concepts. Anyway, it isn't
recommended to read Jung's own books, since he's not a writer but a
scientist, and since his enormous books are really slowly developped.
>
>The second author I found out to be maybe THE most direct source of
influence for Eva is... I can't say ! ^_^.
>He's became quite well known, as having won once the Nobel award (was that
for poetry?) in the 50s if I remember well. He wrote one of his books under
a pseudonim... A book that basically originated the concept of eva (with
this exact name!) as we also find the perfect model of Kaworu, and many
things in our beloved serie...
>If I have given an idea to any of you, please contact me.
>
>There's a last author we must recognize to have inspired Eva a lot, and
that's from far the hardest one to approach. I must warn anybody who's
curious to read more about him that it is a DANGEROUS litterature !!! Your
present moral can not be kept safe if you read him (just as you it could
hardly be kept if you began to 'dive' in Eva) ! If you still have pieces of
beliefs (religious or personally metaphysical), or if you refuse some
conclusions you tend to guess from Eva, do not touch this guy ! Some may
have guessed I'm talking about F. Nietszche. But you're warned.

>I've been thinking for a very long time that people who couldn't accept one
thing or another about Eva (the concepts in Eva, not all the noise about the
story's facts) were really stupid and showing that they were stupid when
they came to insult the serie or its author(s). I was thinking that it was
better ignoring them, because they were precisely the kind of people that
were totally unable to face its messages (and the angels' mission, in a
part;), and that they were only bound to be the perfect victims of an 'Impact'.
>All that is required to understand Eva is a bit of sensibility, and a lot
of tolerance, and ability to 'endure' (?) the shocks that the serie
reserves. The main idea is to achieve a complimentation of oneself (I'm
definitely talking about the most important, the eva-fan's
complimentation!!!), by accessing to a greater knowledge of one's psychism,
one's moral instability causes, and one's reasons to build its moral values
and its weaknesses/limits, thing very hard to obtain.
>Nowadays, I'm wondering if for a little number of people (especially feable
otakus having found a relative stability in their way of
life/perception/values), if it wouldn't be just better to avoid disturbing
them by causing cracks in their fragile mentality, if we know in advance
that they are not ready to accept it : this result could be catastrophic,
rather than implementing one's conciousness. (those who read a bit of
Nietszche must guess what I mean). This would definitely not be the
'darwin-Jungian' trend to the "Super-man", but just kindness, to avoid those
people suffer too much. Thus is it necesary to keep those ideas 'hermetic'.
>What's sensibly differenciating Eva from those authors is that there's, in
addition, a sort of contemplation of one's weakness, of one's difficulty to
achieve what we tend to be -real 'angels'- : this is shown especially in
some image songs and in the movie.

>I let you comment this little reflexion, even if this is not the kind of
things we usually find in this Mailing list. But I can remember (in the old
ML;)))) some people discussing a while ago about very deep ideas : I hope
they're still here.

>Note : I _don't_ say I never enjoy this ML's usual discussions (the proof
is I can't get out of here), nor that I'm not proud of an 'otaking'-part of
me : Never forget that Anno made much in otaku no video !
