I should have been clearer. Gendo could have been speaking as Adam, 
being the first angel, was the first human seeing as the angels are just 
alternate evolutions of humanity, our fellow compainions from lillith.

Well, if it wasn't for the fact the the emissaries(shito) were 
translated by Anno as angels, then this whole: God has a helping hand in 
EVA bit would dissapear.

Do you put God into other anime? Does God exist in Ranma? EVA is not 
religious propaganda.(although that was going to be my april fools joke, 
the southern baptists bought EVA)
