Actually, it's more of a gender differance... Yound boys usually use "boku"
for "I" whereas for girls, it's "atashi". "Ore" is commonly used by older boys
(note : Shinji refers to himself as Boku throughout the entire animated
series, until D&R and EOE, right after that...one... scene [uncomfortable
cough]... You know, with Asuka... [=-_-=;;;]), but I think girls stick with
"atashi", unless they are what you would call a "tomboy"...

Girls are, as they say, "sugar and spice, and everything nice"... Japanese
culture sort of agrees with this (Hope nobody takes this in a wrong way).
