I thought it was interesting that in the comic version of the manga
released by Dark Horse that Rei sustains her injuries while piloting EVA 01
(I'm pretty sure it was 01, but my memory is a bit fuzzy =Þ) against the
3rd Angel while Shinji is on his way towards NERV HQ, rather than during
experiments with EVA 00. Perhaps Rei's image being projected towards
Shinji was a product of the physical trauma caused by the Angel attack and
experienced by her and EVA 01 (Yui).
By the way, the Evangelion comic is actually worth a look as it is not
simply a rehash of the anime. Yoshiyuki Sadamoto does do quite a few
things different with the art and the plot.
Also, I have only seen the first 20 episodes and am pretty new to this
mailing list, so I'm really really grateful to you people who stick those
spoiler tags on your email. I delete any email that looks like it has even
the slightest possibility of containing spoilers ^_^.
