Actually, while I strongly suspect ulterior motives on his part, I have
yet to hear any direct evidence of a desire to become a "god."

>The same with Gendou.

Actually, there is some evidence to suggest that Gendou's ulterior motive
for all of this is to somehow reunite with Yui.

Actually, there is some evidence to suggest that Gendou's original plan
for the HCP did not involve the 3rd Impact.

Actually, no. Keel's original plan involved using Lillith and the Lance
of Longinus somehow. It was then modified to use 01 instead along with
the MP models. (Hmm, the MP models were probably part of the original
plan as well. Sorry for how that sounded.)

Gendou's original plan also seems to have been different, but this was
apparently his back-up for seizing control of the HCP since the 3rd Impact
had already begun. BTW, in EOE he mentions something about uniting Adam
and Lillith when he goes to Lillith with Rei. (apparently a big difference
between his plan and Seele's) Also, IIRC, when he begins to meld with
Rei, he says something about how he already had Adam with him. (the
embryo, I suppose.) Apparently he was going to combine Adam, Lillith, Rei
and himself, I guess. Rei refuses and gives the future to Shinji as Kaoru
hinted would happen.

Same thing. ^_^

Well, at best, I'll accept that symbolically. ^_- Besides, that last
scene is fairly disturbing. :(

>As far as the "war", what would you call the situation with the ANgels?

Well, let's see.

Adam is sleeping in Antarctica; humans wake him up; he stumbles
around; humans shrink him and nearly level the planet in the process.

*Angel #1 is certainly not at fault here. ^_^ This also seems to be what
causes all the rest to happen afterwards.

2nd angel: unknown.

*No data.

Sachiel: Comes directly to Tokyo 3, gets shot at, fights against defenses,
gets N2'd, regenerates, fights 01, and self-destructs.

*Fought against targets that shot it, tried to destroy 01, killed itself
prior to destruction.

Shamshel: Floats into T3, gets shot at, fights 01, and gets killed.

*Tries to kill 01.

Ramiel: Floats into T3, blasts any hostile within range, blasts 01, tries
to drill into Geofront, blasts 01, misses, blasts again and blocked by 00,
and gets killed.

*First angel that is obviously trying to get in.

Gaghiel: Swims around the U.N. fleet, gets shot at, rams ship where 02
was, chases after 02, fights 02, tries to eat 02, and gets killed.

*Didn't go to T3, tried to eat 02.

Israfel: walks up to the beach, gets cut in half by 02, splits in two,
stomps on 01 and 02, gets N2'd, walks towards T3, fights defenses, fights
01 and 02, gets killed.

*Basically just fights 01 and 02.

Sandalphon: hatches in electro-magnetic cage, breaks out, fights 02,
attempts to eat 02, gets killed.

*Ties to eat 02 after birth.

Matariel: Walks into T3 during power outage, drips acid on Evas, gets
killed.

*Tried to destroy Evas.

Sahaquiel: Floats in orbit, runs into satellite, drops pieces of itself,
drops onto T3, caught by Eva units, and gets killed.

*First one that ever seemed to want to destroy T3. (Is it just me, or
wouldn't using its body as a bomb kill it as well?)

Iruel: Infects protein wall, spreads into Nerv HQ while evolving and
evading lasers and ozone, attempts to hack into Magi in order to get them
to order a self-destruct, is convinced to evolve itself to death.

*Also seemed to want to destroy T3.

Leliel: Floats around T3, attacked by 01, absorbs 01, spreads out and
then does nothing, torn apart by 01.

*Waited until attacked by 01 and then ate it.

>Bardiel: Infects 03 in cloud, takes control of 03 and destroys testing
area, takes out 02 and attempts to infect 00, fights 01 and tries to
strangle it, gets obliterated by the dummy controlled 01.

Took over 03, took out 02, tried to infect 00 and rei, and tried to
destroy 01.

Zuruel: blows a hole through T3, shot at by 02 while descending, removes
02's arms and head, floats past 02, attacked by 00, chops through 00's
chest, blows a hole into the Central Dogma, goes into the control room,
attacked by 01, blows off 01's arm, ejected into the Geo-Front, beats the
crap out of the powerless 01, tries to destory the core of 01
directly, gets stomped on by reactivated 01, gets eaten by 01.

Takes out 00 and 02, but then ignores them. Definitely headed down
towards Lillith. Tried to destroy 01's core.

Arael: Floats in orbit, telepathically rapes Asuka, shot at by 00, killed
by 00 using the Lance of Longinus.

*Mind-rapes Asuka.

Armisael: Floats around, infects 00 and Rei, talks to Rei, attempts to
infect 01, trapped by 00, killed by 00's self-destruction.

*Infects 00 and Rei, tries to infect 01.

Tabris: Sent by Seele to T3 as the fifth child, whistles, talks to
Shinji, synchs with 02, talks to Rei, talks some more with Shinji,
showers, talks some more, takes control of 02, heads down the Central
Dogma, talks while having 02 fight 01, blocks prog knife strike with AT
Field, generates the strongest AT Field on record, heads towards Lillith,
saying that he must return to Adam, realizes it's Lillith not Adam, asks
Shinji to kill him so that he does not meld with Lillith, hints at
Shinji's role in deciding the future, smiles at Rei, is killed by 01.

*Talks to Rei and Shinji. Controls 02. Wants to meld with Adam. Does
not want to meld with Lillith. Chooses to die.

So what have we got: Mostly they really seemed to want to kill, eat, or
infect the Evas. The Evas are about the only thing that most of them
attack without any provocation. Two tried to destroy the city.
(Iruel, Sahaquiel) Three made obvious attempts to get to Lillith.
(Ramiel, Zuruel, Tabris) One was in the area with Adam. (Gaghiel) Twelve
were at least attempting to enter the T3 area. (Sachiel, Shamshel,
Ramiel, Israfel, Matariel, Sahaquiel, Iruel, Leliel, Bardiel, (seemed
to be headed there) Zuruel, Armisael, and Tabris.) Three sort of tried to
make some form of contact with Rei. (Tabris, Bardiel, Armisael)

Ok, Kaoru made it pretty clear that "those born of Adam must return to
Adam." Three were definitely headed to try to accomplish this goal
(althought they were headed towards Lillith.) and Gaghiel may have sensed
Adam. We might assume that most of the other 9 who entered the T3 area
just never made it to the point of attempting to go down.

Leliel's goal is unknown. Arael's goal is unknown. Sandalphon was killed
just after being born. Sahaqiel and Iruel may have simply been trying to
get all of the city out of the way.

Note: Each angel is a seperate evolutionary path born of Lillith. They
are not the same, and they do not work together. We only classify them
together.

Nerv was put together under the pretense of stopping angels from
touching "Adam" (Lillith) because that would start the Third Impact. But
it was really all set up to cause the third impact.

17 seperate angels. Some with unknown goals, most seem to want to return
to Adam. Since Seele wants the third impact, either an angel melding with
"Adam" (Lillith) wouldn't cause it, or it causes it in a way different
than one they could use for their HCP. (The second option seems to be the
case.)

All in all, I'd hardly call it a war. We killed 17 alternate
evolutionary branches under orders from Seele so that they could kill
humanity in the way they wanted to. ^_^

Hardly a war; hardly a victory. As always, humanity's true enemy is
itself.

Later,

Gareth
