Hey, a minute can seem like an eternity, especially with the laconic Rei
and Asuka, who at that point was just looking for a reason to snap at her.

There's some cool Second Impact footage added before they roll the credits
for episode 21.
There's scenes in 22's "introspective" portion(tm) where Asuka is walking
through
an empty trainyard and suddenly finds herself struggling upstream through a
crowd of hooded figures. One takes its hood off and all of a sudden she's lost
in a sea of red psychedelia. I'm probably not describing it well enough, it's a
very nicely done scene. Another that might be new is a scene where the
ghostly image of herself as a young girl approaches her as she huddles in a
playground and says something(damn I need to learn Japanese!), Which Asuka
lashes out at. The ghost dissolves away, almost exploding from the impact of
her words. Looks like I'll be getting the AD Vision version just so I can see
what's missing from it. ^_^

They probably could have cut one or two, but I think its meant to annoy.
Annoying for us, agonizing for her.

It's the first time I purchased a unsubbed or dubbed anime. Interesting. Even
the opening animation is slightly different. When Unit 01 crosses its arms
and spreads its wings, it wipes away a black screen of text, which I assume is
more credits. One of the cooler screen-wipes I've seen.

I wondered if that might be the case. Thanks for the clarification.

I enjoyed watching the tape with my friend who lived in Germany for a year,
and seeing him go "huh?" "what?" and shaking his head. :) I dunno, maybe
it was just reminded Shinji of how different he and Asuka are, and/or that
she had a mother to talk to, even if its a substitute one.
