[EVA] What happens to the EVAs [spoilers?]

Unit 00 was destroyed when it self-destructed in episode 23, and the core was
destroyed as well. Unit 00 took out large chunk of Tokyo-3 as well, and
exposed Central Dogma.
On this matter, how come destruction of EVA are far more grander and

Correct, Unit 01 went drifting into space, though I am at loss to explain why.
Unit 02 was eaten by MPMs, and I gess the core was as well.

MPMs were then asorbed into giant Rei (I think), taking Unit 01 with to
intiate Third Impact.
Mostly questions? Because you were too impatient to watch EVA series through
and properly.
