Indeed, good point.  Arael and Sahaquiel both appeared in orbit, which
may suggest that they were hibernating on the moon.  This presents an
interesting idea.  (Note: This is speculation.)  What if the meteorite
that caused the Giant Impact was Lillith's Egg crashing into the earth?
(I still haven't confirmed whether Lillith is supposed to represent the 
"mother" of all life on Earth or just the 18 "angels" yet, (There is some
annoying, conflicting evidence I need to muddle through first.) but it
might be an interesting connection because life originated roughly 3.5-3.8
billion years ago.  I'll admit though that even .2 billion years is a long
lag time, so it still might not mean much.)  Also, we should remember that
the moon played heavily into the original concepts of the series.  (some
of the remnants remain, of course...)  The original 12th and final angel
was supposed to descend from the moon, and IIRC, it was going to involve
some ancient alien civilization from the moon.  (Is that right, Patrick?)
The moon also had a lot to do with Rei.
