How bad off was mankind at this point in time? Did they say "end of
humanity" or "destruction of all humanity"? They're quite different in
meaning. The Third Impact, if it dealt as much damage as the Second Impact,
could indeed be enough to destroy enough of mankind to send humanity on a
downward (even more so then before) spiral to their destruction.

No, not really. They said it was just a theory... just like anything else
regarding the second angel. Besides, the "2nd Angel would have been found
about the same time as Adam" isn't inconsistent at all. It WOULD have been
found at the same time... or pretended to have been found.
