[EVA] How do Shinji's clips work? [EOE spoilers] [long]

Mate, put SPOILER in the header please in future.  For those of you who are 
worried about it, I dont get into EoE junk straight away so you should be ok 
for a paragraph or two.

Remember the episode with the paper cut dude?  Asuka went berserk after both 
her Eva's arms got sliced off at the shoulder - or at least, I would call it 
effing nuts, she was screaming (schweihund?) and charged the Angel full on.  
NERV cut the pilot's connections just as EVA-02's head got sliced off..

When an Eva powers down it is my ASSUMPTION that nerve connections are 
automatically cut and that the pilot feels no pain.  There seems to be 
backup for this:  Shinji's charge downhill at the fourth angel (with Touji 
and Kensuke in the cockpit).. he wasn't in pain when it was over, just 
crying from emotional overload.  Then Asuka berserker's at the paper cut 
angel (14?) and dispite having arms and head cut off no longer feels pain, 
only depression or so it seems as she sits in the entry plug, thoroughly 
defeated.  Oh and when Shinji's one-armed EVA-01 powers down against the 
paper cut dude.  He doesn't feel his head wrapped up or his chest blasted 
open, or if he does, he seems remarkably capable of speech and jerking 
uselessly at the control handles..

I don't think it has to do with the headband being on or off, in any event, 
once the Eva's out of power, the pilot shouldn't be feeling anything even IF 
they're berserker.  The bit where EVA-02 got chewed out in EoE was between 
powering down and re-power-ing of the Eva - probably due to Asuka losing it 
totally, but this is a result of the pain she SHOULD NOT have been feeling!! 
-  except possibly as an afterimage.

Of course, in EoE, you have the b.s. morphing lances which add an unknown 
factor.  The best bet on explaining Asuka feeling pain dispite being in an 
unpowered Eva is that the lance did it.  It made her bleed, anyway... go 
watch it closely when she's pulling on the handles hysterically.

*shrug* IMO it was all fudged for audience effect :)  It WOULD be kinda 
boring if in EOE Asuka just sat in the powered down entry plug, catching her 
breath and wondering to herself "hmm what's that chewing sound?"..
