[EVA]episode 24, why does rei smile?

  Hello,

*********************** EPISODE 24 SPOILER************************


        This might of been previously discussed, so if so i'm sorry. there's 
one thing about this episode that I never quite understood, and that is at 
the end of the Shinji/Kaworu battle when Kaworu is talking to Shinji he 
looks up and smiles at Rei who looks like she's smiling back. Does anyone 
have an idea as why? I could just be stupid, but I thought someone might 
know.

Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated!
