Then what about Fuyutsuki's line to Gendou in the episode 23 re-edit:
"Rei... she's the product of my despair, and now, she may well be your hope."

This was my translation, but my skill isn't diminutive enough that he might
have actually said "Rei's a pretty good soul container, eh?"

And speaking of Rei:

I realise the thread is about whether or not Lilith fits as the Second
Angel, but I beg to differ on this point, Brendan. I posted my reasoning a
while back:
Adam is called the Firsth Angel.
Kaworu is called the 17th.
Kaworu says Rei is the same as him.

Rei also appears to generate an AT Field that manages to cancel his out.
Why can't Rei be counted as an Angel?
NERV (at least, the members who're in-the-know) knew of Rei between the
discovery of Adam (definitely the First) / Lilith, and Sachiel (Third).
Apparently, Humanity is the Eighteenth. So if Rei's an Angel like Kaworu
is, she must be the Second.

What's wrong with this?
BTW, I only present this theory 'cos I like it so much, I accept that
there's conflicting evidence out there...
