[EVA] Third Impact

hi- this has probably been answered before, but

1) is there any explanation for the incosistency that the angels are stopped
to prevent Third Impact by the ones who bring it about themselves (Ikari,
Seele, etc)? Why should they bother preventing it?

2) so Gainax stands by the position that eva has two distinctive endings-
but have they acknowledged that the two endings could be consistent in a
single story? I think it's possible to make such an interpretation.
