We don't know what would happen if an Angel came into contact with
Lilith. It is reasonable to assume that this would have been the end
of the world, though. The irony is that in the end even with the
Angels' destruction, the world was almost destroyed; this time by
humans.

I seriously doubt it...

This *is* the film... in the film ending Shinji chose to escape HCP
while in the TV ending he accepted it.

That Shinji saw the false happiness in HCP, rejected it and returned
to reality? I'd say so...
