No, they aren't.
A certain level of logic must always be applied regardless of whether
the theory can be proven or not. By extension of the "Until proven
otherwise, all possibilities are open" mentality I can (because it does
not require reason) seriously and safely say that Aoba and Shinji's
teacher are lovers. Can you prove otherwise?  

Such a claim makes as much sense as "Shinji is a clone".
