Regarding the issue of Rei's genetic makeup, many people on the list have
flatly stated that she is simply a clone of Yui Ikari and a vessel for
Lilith's soul. While any information, i.e., facts, that may suggest otherwise
are apparently non-exisitent, if you consider the following:
1) RCB: Rei was made from the genetic material left behind after Yui's
accident in Unit 01. Therefore, or non-therefore, one can go out on a limb and
suggest that this genetic material could, and I mean could, contain genetic
material from Yui as well as Unit 01/Lilith. NGE isn't a typical anime, e.g.,
every character is drawn realistically. No wild hair colors except for who?
Rei (blue) and Kaworu (silver/gray). I read somewhere, perhaps on an early
version of this list IIRC, that Rei's blue hair was attributed to her being
part angel. Don't flame me on this...like I said, it's a vague recolection of
someone else's theory.
2) As stated, Kaworu tells Rei that they are alike. Kaworu states that his
body is the same as Eva's. In other words, his belief is that all Evas are
made from Adam. He doesn't seem to know about Unit 01, therefore it can be
surmised that Seele is also unaware of Gendou's and Unit 01's secret. This was
apparently done to mask Gendou/Yui's plan to thwart Seele's plan of initiating
their version of the TI.
3) In eps. 24, Rei develops an ATF as powerful as Kaworu's to penetrate his
ATF. If Rei were a normal human, she could not do so as human's cannot project
their ATFs. Now, does having Lilith's soul account for this? Also, what then
is Kaworu. He has the power of an Angel (actually, he is probably the most
powerful of the Angels; "strongest ATF we've ever registered"). Does this mean
he has an S^2 Kikan? I would say yes. Does Rei? Undetermined.

Wrong! You've got it backwards. Unit 01 was a clone of Lilith. All other Eva's
were made from Adam. Seele didn't know about Unit 01, so although it is not
stated anywhere, the MP Evas must also be from Adam.

Also, on a slightly different topic, does anyone recall the time frame that
Gainax/Anno decided that there would be two entities (Adam/Lilith) instead of
just Adam? I also read this somewhere, that the original crucified entity in
Terminal Dogma was actually supposed to be Adam in early script drafts, but
the story was modified to include another entity.
