The theory of Adam and Lilith originally being a single being has been
floating around for a while, and does have some merit (especially if
that was what this images was trying to get across).

Right, that's what I had always thought. Which is why while I have
strong ideas on what the image means - I am not sure what to make of it
in the long run. ¬_¬

Don't forget there is also the problem of relating Adam's Egg (White
Moon) and Lilith's Egg (Black Moon) to the what the image suggests. @_@

It does fit. It also makes things simpler.
But the idea does not really follow the image very well. The arms are
very different, for example. Plus the cross section would be missing
from the reflection.
