Fathers in general seem to be theabsent figure of the scene...the males in
Eva all seem potentially able to head into that direction. The view is
centered on relationships with women, the motherly figure, which is absent
for all of them for many varied reasons...they seem to be the product of
this absence, and the way the women we know act is generally determined by
how their mothers have been to them too...Misato, Hikari, but more Asuka,
Ritsuko...while the mals tend to 'react' to these female figures, they
generally are the ones that determine their life, try to take it their
hands, with good or bad results, but the female figures seem to have a
central role in the picture. Yet, it seems that if they lack the motherly
side or they do not give it impulse, they can't manage well their lives or
others'...makes me think that it would take a mother to save the day in
Eva...and perhaps that is part of what Anno meant to say...Yui is, to me,
that motherly figure.
