That he "is from Adam", meaning that he is an angel because the combination
of his body, mind and Adam's soul make him an angel (as to why is it so,
it's probably a special characteristic of Adam's soul). Rei is from Lilith
as a Lilim and as the being that possesses Lilith's soul.
