I am friends with the Woman who decides what anime should be aired on KTEH, 
a PBS station. I suggested EVA to her, and look what I got!

KTEH currently shows Urusei Yatsura, and has in the past shown Tenchi Muyo 
TV and OVA, Key the Metal Idol, and Bubblegum Crisis IIRC.
