Which in turn leads to the question of whether or not the process in which
Yui vanished is identical to the process in which Shinji vanished beyond
superficial terms.

That is, both of them:
1) Entered Pattern Red (ego-borders undefined)
2) Lost physical form.

Yui's was different from Shinji's in that:
1) Genetic material was left behind. ("Dissolved.")
2) There were no apparent "mental projections."
3) LCL remained chemically unchanged. (?)

Shinji's was different from Yui's in that:
1) No apparent genetic material was left behind.
2) "Mental projections" created a plug suit.
3) LCL reverted to sea water with trace chemicals.*

* The term "quantum form" is used, but usage is vague.
