If I remember episode 19 (and 24) correctly, it would seem that the vertical 
shaft is the axis of the GeoSphere. Remember when good old Zeruel is 
blasting around the GeoFront area, he goes after the pyramid, then after the 
"foundation plates" (if you see an image of the pyramid from an above angle, 
there's some sort of depression direct adjacent [and on the other side is 
some sort of tower]), as reported by our male deck bunnies and Misato:

Shigeru:  Direct hit to the third foundation.
Makoto:   Final armor plate fused.
Misato:   It's no good.  The main shaft is exposed.

At this point, Zeruel descends the main shaft, then breaks through the main 
projector screen in the command center. So I'd guess that it would like 
something like this: (hope this comes out right on everyone's email...)

A - pyramid
_ - "foundation" (shaft entrance)
l - vertical shaft
C - command center

a)  _A        or       b)  _A

To me, a would seem a more logical design than b, as it places the 
facilities (that we more or less can map out, Gendo's office and the command 
center) in a vertical arrangement (with the command center and the cage 
being side by side).

One thing now, do you consider the circle of salt pillars (the place Unit 01 
and 02 crashland into in episode 24, I've got nothing else to call it...), 
the LCL Plant (Lillith on her cross), and the Rei-quarium as more or less 
one area at the center of the GeoSphere, or as one of these particular three 
being the exact center. And if you go for one of them being the exact 
center, which do you go for? (and of course, why?)
