[EVA] Is "What I'm saying, Shinji, is that I love you." debatable?

Although EVA has serious religion overtones, God is mentioned very rarely
in the series. Never is it stated that the angels in EVA are created by
God. In fact, if I recall correctly, it's said that the angels were
created by humans in the attempt to create God, not the other way
around. Because of this, we can't say that the EVA angels are sexless
like the Christian angels, even though the series borrows heavily from the
religion. One may not necessarily have anything to do with the other. We
need to be able to distinguish between the two.
