Interesting theory, except that it completely ignores Kaworu's
subsequent line: "koui ni atai suru (worthy of friendship)"

This "koui" is often mistranslated as "koi (love)".
(long "o" vs. short "o" -- an easy hearing mistake to make)

"koui" has no romantic implications whatsoever, and simply means:
goodwill, good wishes, friendliness, kindness, courtesy, warmhearted,
well meaning, etc.
