When you get right down to it, most pop music these days is just a
reworking of Pachelbel's Canon in D.  The song itself is indeed in the key
of D...wait.  I don't have the song with me so I'm working from memory
here. *hums a few bars*  Okay, yes...the song is in D.  Most
English-language pop music is in D.  Try listening to Green Day's "Basket
Case" and hum Pachelbel's Canon with it...or even the Beatles's "Let It
Be."  That one's also in D, and has similar chordal progressions to "Komm,
susser Tod" (Come, sweet death).  It also has a very similar style and
overall feel, especially toward the end with the clapping and running
strings.
