Another thing to remember is that for all practical purposes Sega and
Bandai are just two different branches of the same company. (Bandai =
manufacturing, Sega = sales/distribution). For example, Cardass cards
are manufactured by Bandai and sold by Sega.
If you check your Sega merchandise boxes, you will probably find
"Manufactured by Bandai" in small (Japanese) letters somewhere.

I asked my friend (the one who made the Misato's NERV uniforms) and he
said that merchandise licensing rights average around 4% of the item
retail price. Furthermore, these royalties are spread between many
companies including GAINAX, TV Tokyo, King Records, and so on.
