<<Incidentally - the new French film, "Fat Girl" *is* more or less "banned" in Ontario, Canada.>>

OT: the version of catherine breillat's fat girl/a ma soeur running in the states (which i recommend with a few reservations) is, i am told, slightly different from the continental release. Quite certain that the canadian, release, (like the release for 1997's Kissed), will be shown in its entirety, and not cut as it was here in the US.

re this EoE string, c. breillats first film, Une vraie jeune fille (1976) might be somewhat instructive:

it never did receive a theatrical release in France because it was actually banned(forget censored, this was the real deal): it does not actually get a theatrical release in paris until 2000 (and only
after it got re-edited yet again for "aesthetic" reasons. aparently breillat was annoyed at the accusation that it resembled a david-hamilton-ish 70s-adolescent soft-porn vehicle, (which it does).

the primary reason for its banning in '76 was that it more than suggestively depicts sex between a putative 14 year old girl and two men twice her age. ( one of whom is incidentally her father, who shoe does make a point to NOT resist...)

i would argue that the bar that this film raised (and pola x, and romance, and baise-moi) will exempt the EoE movies from any child-sex accusations that would prevent it from getting a theatrical release--i would think that the asuka hospital scene would hardly bat an eye. this issue is entirely in the hands of the distributor, and no one else.
