iirc, Ghost in the Shell takes place in Shirow's made up land of
Newport City. While I think the box says this is located in Kobe,
Japan, Director Oshii and the production featurette on the DVD/LD/Sp
Ed VHS say that the film takes place in "an unidentified Asian
nation". This accounts for the Hong Kong-esque design of the sity.
