Because the one that has been "kicked over" (I hate that phrase because it
implies something that did not happen in the final scenario) shows steel
reinforcements at the break, thus making it a utility pole = big.

Regardless of what was written in the original drafts, the final ending is
different, and even the storyboards only mention "grave-marker-like" objects.  In
other words, they only give the impression of grave markers.

Also, I forget who made reference to this, but Shinji and Asuka did not dig
"graves" -- not even in the original drafts.  Everyone turned into LCL, so there
would be no bodies to bury.
