Estimating the size from the structure at the broken section of the one pole
and the relative comparison with the shoreline, these objects are much too
large to have been erected -- much less "kicked over" -- by Shinji and/or
Asuka.

So what reason do you give for the structure at the break?
I would point out that it does look like the steel reinforcements in the broken
sections of what are clearly utility poles (with wires and fixtures) in other
shots.

Also, if the objects are utility poles (= steel-reinforced concrete), then they
are different from the wooden post to which Misato's cross is nailed.  Given
the apparent size difference between the two, I would say they are different
objects even if they are not utility poles.

Then why are we arguing about whether they are grave markers or whether one was
kicked over?

There was no tomb/grave, because in this case as well there was no body.
