And I didn't summarize the whole live-action sequence, just how it begins,
how it ends, and the main characters' "roles"...

And as you can see, I'm not fluent in English, so it would take me a huge
amount of time. ^^;

Yeah, I'm sorry, I couldn't remember if that was mentioned in Michael's
compilation or not... ^^;

Er... I'll use Bochan-Bird's translation for some of the excerpts, I hope
he won't mind. ^^;;
I'll probably make some mistakes because of my poor English, so feel free
to correct them... ^^;

Gendô : "Hito wa aratana sekai e to susumu beki na no desu. Sono tame no
Eva Series desu."
Keel and Seele : "Warera wa hito no katachi o sutete made, Eva to iu na no
hakobune ni noru koto wa nai. Arata naru tochi o mezasu hitsuyô mo nai.
Hito wa ima no sugata da kara hito to ieru no da. Sono sugata wa sude ni
hito dewanai. Subete no seimei ni byôdô o. Subete no hitobito ni
ataerareteiru "shi" o motte sono okonai o. Kore wa tsûka gishiki na no da.
Heisoku shita seimei ga saisei suru tame no. Subete ga owaranakereba, shin

Gendô : "Humans should evolve into a new world. That is the purpose of the
Eva series."
Keel and Seele : "We don't have to give up our human forms to enter an Ark
called Eva. We don't have to aim for new lands either. Humans can be called
humans because of their actual shape. That shape (Eva's shape, I'd assume?)
is not that of humanity. We'll bring equality to all life forms. And we'll
procede by the means of a "death" confered to all humans (no, I'm not sure
I understand that one... this sentence could be translated in various ways,
I think, but none of them seems to make a lot of sense to me ^^;). It is a
rite of passage. To bring about the rebirth of a blocked (/clogged? ^_^;)
life. If everything doesn't come to an end, nothing can trully begin. The
fate of destruction is also the joy of rebirth. So God, humans, all life
forms can be united under Lilith."


Misato : "15 nen mae no Second Impact wa, Adam o bunkai saseru koto de,
sono kibo o shukushô dekita. Anata no o kâsan tachi ga, yatta no yo. Shinji
kun. Anata kore made, nani to tatakatte kita no. Shito datta wa ne. Etai no
shirenai, communication funô na mono tachi. Sono saigo ni nokotta 18 banme
no Shito wa, ningen na no yo. Adam to onaji Lilith kara umareta Lilin to
yobareru, Shito na no yo. Kotai toshite dewa naku, dekisokonai no guntai

Misato : "The Second Impact, 15 years ago, could reduce Adam's scale by
making it decomposing itself. That's you mother and the other scientists'
work (actually, I believe that doesn't necessarily mean that Yui was there,
just some scientists like her... it's just surprising that Misato didn't
say "o tôsan tachi", "your _father_"). Shinji kun. What have you fought
with, until now? The Angels, isn't it? Mysterious beings unable to
communicate (or we can't communicate with? I'm tired ^^;). The remaining
18th Angel is humans. They're the Angel called Lilin, born from Lilith who
is just like Adam (actually, the lack of the "seimeitai no minamoto" part
is rather disturbing, and one can wonder if it doesn't mean "born from
Lilith like Adam", here, after all... I don't like that at all, and I
believe it should be "onajiku" if that was supposed to mean that, but...
^^;;;). An Angel who is an ensemble of separate entities, instead of being
a single one. Angels and humans share the same basics. It's just that the
Angels are another possible humanity. A humanity that gave up its human
form. Humans can't live without the Sun, the Earth and the Moon who are the
mother of life. But Angels are a new life form that doesn't rely on those
and can live even in extreme conditions. Evas were also prototypes (or
maybe "specimen"/"sample"?) of that [new life] (Misato says "no ne", so it
looks like it's just an assumption based on what she now knows). Humans may
disappear eventually. But for now, we can't let us get killed by other humans."


Fuyutsuki : "Third Impact hatsudô no kagi wa, Ikari no musuko ga nigitte
shimatta. Lilith, iya Rei to dôka shite shimatta kare ga, sekai no owari o
nozomeba, subete no tamashii wa hajike, uchû e kaerô to suru darô. Ima ya,
chikyû igai dewa, ikiteikenai noni. Subete no tamashii wa, mu e to kaeru ka."

Fuyutsuki : "Ikari's son has now grasped the key to operate Third Impact.
Now that he has been assimilated with Lilith, no, Rei, if he wishes for the
end of the world, all the souls will spring ("pop" ^^;) and return to
space. Even if they can't live outside of the Earth yet. Will all the souls
return to nothingness?"


Now, as you can see, there were talks about... well, what may look like a
really strange version of Royal Space Force. ^_^;
Maybe Gendô (and Yui?) actually wanted to evolve to a new world... and
really meant _another planet_? ^^;
Anyway, they needed Eva/Evas (Eva-01, I guess?) as "arks", and Seele didn't
want that. They didn't want to abandon their human forms and didn't see any
need to aim for new "lands" (worlds?). They'd rather unite all living forms
in death to bring them under Lilith (a return to the wom, instead of a
space conquest? ^^)
Unlike humans who were "confined" on Earth ("blocked"/"clogged" in their
evolution as a lifeform), Angels were "new life forms" capable of surviving
in non-Earthly environments. Evas were the same kind of thing, according to
Misato.

I don't believe I write all these weird things about space, other worlds
and all the like... I mean, "space conquest in Eva??". But well... You can
see for yourself. ^^;
And I guess Yui's choice makes more sense, under that light. ^^;
