[EVA] Manga continuation - Stage 46

Four months in a row now for the Big "S", and it looks like there will be another stage next
month as well.  ^^  Of course, the last few stages (this one included) have basically
followed the TV storyline, and this current stage is rather short on dialog...

Stage 46 - Awakening

Cover: Howling Eva-01

Scene: Havoc in the Command Center as Eva-01 attacks Zeruel
(Eva-01 bursts through the wall and tackles Zeruel, but Zeruel's eyes flash and a beam of
light rips through Eva-01's left arm, tearing it off mid-upper arm. The arm crashes into the
wall near Gendo, splattering him with blood. Shinji clutches at his left arm and screams in
pain/anger. Eva-01 reaches out to grab Zeruel's face with its right hand and pushes it
crashing into the linear lift wall.)
Shinji (looking over at the Command Center): Misato!!
Misato (instantly comprehending): Fire (Eject) #5! Quickly!!
(Eva-01 and Zeruel shoot up the lift, with Eva-01 scraping Zeruel's face against the lift
wall as they go. The two giants hurtle upward from the Geofront exit, and fall with Eva-01 on
top slamming Zeruel on its back into the ground. Panting from exertion/rage, Shinji notices
the bloody Eva-00 lying motionless with its head split down the middle.)
Shinji (thinking/shocked): Ayanami!
(Shinji quickly whips his head around and spots Eva-02 standing armless and decapitated, and
his rage intensifies as he screams and Eva-01 pummels at Zeruel's face.)
Shinji (thinking): Asuka! Shit! Why!? Why did you two...!? Shit!!
(Eva-01 grabs Zeruel's face and pulls, stretching the flesh beneath as it tries to pull the
face off...)
Shinji (shouting in rage): Die! You bast-
(...but the entry plug suddenly goes dark as Eva-01's power runs out. Shinji looks over at
the power supply monitor in shock to see it registering 0:00:00.

Scene: Inside the Command Center -- Maya monitoring the battle on her laptop
Maya: Eva-01 has reached it's operational limit! The back-up isn't working!!
Makoto: No...
Maya (distraught): And Eva-01 was our only hope...

Scene: Back to the battle
(Zeruel wrap its arm around Eva-01's head and raises the Eva unit high into the air. The
Command Center staff rush outside through an emergency exit just in time to see Zeruel
release Eva-01, which falls crashing into the side of the Nerv HQ pyramid.)
Misato: Shinji...!
Shinji (frantic inside the dark entry plug): Shit...! Work!! (clutching futilely at the
induction levers) Work! Work! Work! Work!! If you don't work now, it all will have been for
nothing!!
(Zeruel's eyes flash and twin beams of light strike Eva-01 in the chest which erupts in a
great explosion. Misato shields her face from the blast with her good arm, but looks up in
shock to see a steaming core lying exposed in Eva-01's chest.)
Misato: ...!? That's...?
(Zeruel pounds repeatedly against the exposed core. The shocks reverberate inside the entry
plug, which starts to crack.)
Shinji (screaming/clutching frantically at levers): Work! Work!! If you don't work now,
everyone will die!! (closing eyes with frustration/rage/tears) And I can't take that anymore!
So, WORK!!
(Familiar flash of shimmering light in circle ミ Shinji opens his eyes in surprise/shock as a
thumping sound like a giant heartbeat begins to reverberate through the darkness of the entry
plug. Eva-01's eyes light and it reaches up with its right hand to slice through Zeruel's
incoming ribbon arm. Eva-01 grabs the arm and pulls Zeruel into it. Eva-01's horn impales one
of Zeruel's eyes (some blood comes out). Eva-01 then kicks Zeruel violently away, ripping off
its arm in the process. The Command Center staff stare stunned as Zeruel crashes backwards
through the trees, landing on its back.)
Maya: E...Eva-01 has reactivated...
(Eva-01 holds Zeruel's ripped-off arm against the stump of its own missing left arm, and the
material blends and fuses into a human-looking arm.)
Misato: Incredible... Has it incorporated Angel parts...?
Maya (attending to her laptop): It can't be... It's unbelievable... Eva-01's synchro rate has
exceeded 400%!
(Ritsuko and Misato look over in shock.)
Ritsuko (getting a distant look): Has she awakened...?
(Eva-01 breaks its jaw restraints to show a mouth full of sharp teeth, and howls...)
