[EVA] [SPOILER] Question about Misato and Shinji

MHO after the happenings (Rei-2) and being as he is, Shinji wanted to shut
himself deeper from the outside world, rejecting contact with others
(specially physical), his strong, almost innate disbelief in the posibility
of being liked, sense of rejection, all theese were very strong factors.
Misato being in a somewhat similar situation tried to comfort him, and thus
comfort herself in her own suffer. I strongly doubt that it had any physical
subtext (after all, the phisicval side was only to "fill the void", the
"lack of something basic" Ritsuko's words [? - dang, cant remember], ep  25?
26?)

On this subject.. In Misato's last moments she makes the comment of "Maybe I 
should have changed the red carpet like Asuka said to.."

When does this comment arise in the series? Does it happen in D&R? And even 
more so.. what relation does it have to do with Misato dying? Did it happen 
to be because of her seeing her blood and perhaps the color of the carpet 
being red?
