Misato: 
If I knew it would end this way... I would've done like Asuka said... 
And changed the carpet... 

This, to me, sounds simply like the incoherent words of a dying woman
who is rapidly losing blood. No more, no less. 
It's ironic that she thinks of something so trivial as she dies. And
yet, I think it's realistic because of that.

It's a reference to something we, the audience, never saw.
