It is never explicitly stated.
However, given the assumption that Adam and Lilith were once a single being
(having both the fruit of life/fruit of wisdom) that split, and that Adam (and
his descendents the Angels) received the fruit of life (S^2 engines) whereas
Lilith (and her descendents the Lilim) instead received the fruit of wisdom
(science), as is hinted in the RCB, then it is a logical assumption, especially
since the original Lance is needed for an Impact with Lilith, but not with
Eva-01.

I do not believe a soul/S^2 connection was ever mentioned.
