But they weren't there to begin with. You're looking at this like the anime 
is the true, perfect vision which the manga must strive to look up to. They 
are different stories being told in different formats. What works in a 26 
week 30 minute per episode series doesn't work in a (bi/tri-)monthly manga.

The big thing is that the character development can be dealt with in other 
places. The manga already has much more character development in it, so 
adding filler just to give the characters more depth doesn't need to be 
done. He did it already.

You're exxaggerating. You REALLY need to read the manga before you start 
judging it.
