Are you speaking of why I know Gainax had no involvement with the ADV
translations?
Bochan corresponded with Gainax when he was translating the screenplay
and offered it to them as an official english translation. Gainax's
response was (and I quote the fax) " All translations into English,
Chinese, Korean, etc. are handled exclusively by the contracting
companies, and GAiNAX does not issue specific instructions as to the
content of this translation."
Things can change, but that's the information available now.
I know about the egos of production studios and directors (and I respect
them :P) - and unless there are mitigating circumstances, I do not see
how Gainax or Anno would suggest a significantly different final line to
the film.

I was just responding to what you said. You don't care if Manga changes
things. I do.
This is a discussion forum...
>I also believe we are turning into what may have caused Anno to write the EoE
>in the first place.
He wrote the ending to the series, TV Tokyo and the PTA rejected it.
Anno went back and re-wrote it into the TV ending. Fans complained.
Gainax found funding from more studios and merchandise and Anno made his
original scripts into films...
>It shouldn't matter what we want, it is Anno's interpretation.
I want what Anno wants. :P
And Anno wanted, "Kimouchi warui."
>But, everyone has their own views. Maybe they saw the last
>line in a different context, and wanted to perform it that way.
Hmm.. you do realize that contradicts what you just said about it not
mattering what we wanted, that what Anno wanted is what's important.
>I just wish everyone would stop bickering about changing lines and
>such and hating people for changing a freaking line.
Well, I (we) just view this type of thing differently. I think it's a
big deal to alter a work of art beyond the author's intentions for no
good reason. You don't... we'll have to agree to disagree.
>It is a movie, and as a movie it is entertainment and should not be viewed otherwise.
Hehe - I think we just have conflicting views of film in general :P
(Entertainment is shallow... NieA_7 is entertaining, Evangelion is more.
American Pie is entertaining... Magnolia is more.)
>We are the whiny fans who didn't like the ending to the series, who forced
>Anno to create a more "suitable" ending..
At Otakon 2001, Deputy Director Kazuya Tsurumaki said the backlash over
the TV ending had nothing to do with the tone/content of the film.
The original ending was more akin to 'The End of Evangelion' than the TV
ending.
Question: If the violence in EoE was a result of Anno's bitterness
towards negative fan reactions to the tv series ending?
Answer: No, it wasn't out of bitterness. Most anime in japan end lightly
and happily, and they were out to make something different than that,
something more realistic I suppose.
