I disagree.

What Kaji is espressing here, IMHO it's just he's beeing someway 'doomed' to
be unhappy.
He's not after Seele for nne but himself sake.

To speak with Misato (TV ep. 25 )

Dreadful reality? It's just me...!

This is, anyway, the bottom line of one of the very main point of interest
of Evangelion. In the real world there are no godd or bad, no selfish or
altruistc. There are only many differet person, each with its own legitimate
desires and wish (thus the famous line 'what do you desire, Ikari-kun?')

Just thik about it, Gendo is the very same (End of Eva).

This is reality, the world of nothing but xenofobia (say the world of
ATFields).

Later,

Here are two quotes from Bochan Bird's Translation of Stage 44:

Kaji (continuing): The information released by the government about a
giant meteorite impact lacked credibility, and I felt that if there was
some group in the shadows pulling strings, then I could not possibly
forgive them. I couldn't let them create more victims like my brother and
friends. (image of Second Impact) I felt that finding out the truth about
Second Impact would be my atonement to my brother.

and later:

Kaji: We're not destined to be happy -- neither of us [refering to
Misato and himself].

These quotes seem to indicate that Kaji has sacrificed his own oppurtunity
for happiness by working against Seele. This seems pretty altruistic to
me.
