To me, they seem to indicate that his opportunity for happiness was taken away
when he was 14, that this was a consequence of others' actions but his own as
well, and that his reasons for working against Seele lie in grief,
self-loathing, moral compulsion to repair a misdeed, guilt. Altruism has nothing
to do with these, they are very self-centered motivations.
