:
: I think that's going to be relevant. A lot of us here
: have been watching the movie subbed for 5 or 6 years
: now and what we expect from the dub is certainly going
: to be affected by that.
:
: It'd be better to see what someone who's never seen
: the movie before thinks of the dub.
People who watch dubs by preference, will be less aggected IMO. I have
friends who have seen all dubbed, & were not put off. But after being
shown the Japanese version a couple of times, they were amazed at how
much more natural (by comparison) the Japanese sounded. But the
obscenities were not noticied.
*Reading* bad language in subtitles is worse for the viewer than
*hearing* it. Especially when you know a word has not been spoken.
Can all the blame be given to AWL (& Manga) though. AK & SS could have
refused to speak the bad language if they *really* had a feel for the
characters they were acting, and (in Misato's case) the delicacy of
those situations.

:
: I haven't seen the dub yet (waiting for box set and
: perhaps the R4 version). However, I thought Allison
: Keith got better as the TV series progressed as well.
: I think this was because where she really shined in
: the TV series was in the dramatic scenes (eg the long
: scene between her and Kaji) and the series got more
: serious as it went along. So I'd expect that she'd do
: well in the the movies as well.
I thought she was best there too, and also (where it counts) in
emotional moments, as you say, with Kaji, and Shinji especially. Her
conversations with Ritsuko were good too. All the more credit to her as
she is talking back to a recording. AK gave Misato humanity.

:
: I find it kind of hard to hate Tiffany Grant since I'm
: an Asuka fan :P
: But her German is immeasurably better than Miyamura
: Yuko's. Though for the movies, I think it'd be hard
: to go past Miyamura's performance. Her screaming was
: chilling.

TG's acting was too OTT. More OTT in some places than Excel in Excel
Saga!
To see a nice seiiyu role MY is in, try Hyper Police#1 which is coming
out the end of this month. She does Natsuki the cat-girl, very kawaii,
but you can hear the Asuka edginess in some scenes.
