All of Evangelion was supposedly a cash cow. You don't do a show for the
sake of art.

No one really knows besides Anno. I wouldn't exclude the possibility
that the minute he was forced to leave aside the originally intended
ending he grinned at the thought of having material for a movie.

Considering how they've been treating all of their precedent
productions, this is more their usual trend than a realization received
with Eva.

last two episodes were initially supposed to be.
