And if the Eva movies are based on the original
intended ending that was thrown out because of
protests?
Regardless of their motives for releasing the films,
the fact remains the Eva movies were produced from the
original ending Anno and Co. wanted for the TV series.
Thus invalidating your argument that the movies were
produced for money. It's totally irrelevant if Gainax
was after money - that doesn't change the fact that
the original scripts were the source material for the
films. The movies are a "return to the original
intended story".
At Anime Expo 1996, Gainax reported that all episodes
after 18 were censored - and especially 25/26. This
was prior to the Eva movies. The battles between Eva
and the Japanese PTA are well publicized in Japan
(correct me if I'm wrong, Bochan).
If you want to prefer the TV ending then please do.
It's your right and your preference. I could care
less. But do not insult the films as being little more
than an excuse to make money. Especially when you
ignoring facts of the production timeline that say
otherwise. At least recognize their position in the
Evangelion saga and their legitimacy.
