I've been labled a "Manga Apologist" for defending
Manga Entertainment in their handling of Eva, and also
Wings of Honneamise, and despite its shortcomings I've
cheered the D&R DVD. So don't act like I'm quick to
pass harsh judgement on Manga. I like Manga
Entertainment and I was one of the few people who was
glad to see they got the license to these films. And
the reason was that they treat their high-profile film
releases very well.
However, D&R extras should not overshadow the extras
on the main feature DVD everyone *really* wants.
Especially when there were so many chances to acquire
bonus materials. I mean, just re-printing the "Magi
Archives" would have been useful for the people who
skipped the D&R disc. I would rather see a more
developed glossary that covers the topics in the EoE
film, but at the very least the content from the D&R
disc should have been re-published.
There's just so much that could have been done for
this disc, and if this is really all there is - then
franky I'm very dissapointed.
Yeah, I'll still buy the DVD - and I'm confident that
Manga will ensure that the actual film will look and
sound great. Wondeful. Good for them. The End of
Evangelion is a fantastic motion picture that can
support a DVD on its own. No question about that. But
that doesn't mean I can't be dissapointed that all the
extras I was looking forward to never panned out.
