Which is mainly Gainax's fault for giving them Air and telling them it was
Rebirth.  Sure, someone at Manga might have noticed and said something, but
let's be honest -- how many "average" fans (ie: people other than the
hard-core Eva otaku on this ML and other discussion groups) who make up the
bulk of anime fandom would even notice the difference had someone not
pointed it out?

Which is mainly the work of Gaijin Productions (Amanda Winn-Lee).
Again, Manga could have exercised a bit more oversight, but in order to
assemble the ADV cast again to avoid being cut to pieces by rabid dub fans
(:P), I wonder what conditions were made by Winn-Lee, who is arguably the
most popular of the ADV Eva voices?  I can easily see a situation like:
"Sure, we'll do it, but only if...."  Of course this is only speculation
and I could be wrong, but I think it would be difficult to deny that
Winn-Lee wanted the direction work for her studio, and pushed to get it.
And from Manga's POV, having one of the main voices also handle the English
production work is like killing two birds with one stone.

As for the other voice talents (ie: Allison Keith) choosing to say or not
say a word, how are they to know whether the word or its equivalent is
there in the Japanese?  I mean, none of these people speak Japanese, and if
that is the script they are given by Winn-Lee (and backed by their
translators), then who are they to argue?  The sad thing is that many fans
will probably like it, just as they cheered Winn-Lee when she injected
profanity in her opening address to Otakon a few years back.  -_-

On that point, I might as well announce now that I have been planning to
review the Bochan_bird script posted at Brendan's site one last time and
make any minor changes necessary (ie: spelling errors and maybe some slight
wording changes -- nothing major) sometime before the EoE release --
hopefully over the next week or so (Japanese summer vacation).
Of course no translation is ever 100% "perfect", but I hope the BB script
will continue to be the best option available.
