[EVA] EoE little spoiler: dream or reality?

Hi to everybody!

This is a question for whom knows better EoE.

In the final part of the movie, when EVA-01 Unit (transformed in the
red-cross Tree of Life) is absorbed by Rei/Lilith, we have a sequence where
Shinji hears and sees what seem to be the minds of all people already
complemented/absorbed by Rei/Lilith, and where Misato and Rei aske him if he
wants to join them to become as one, before Asuka states "If I have to be
with You, I'd rather die!".

is this scene real or, like Asuka's first stranglement, a production of
Shinji's mind in the Complementation phase?
Since EVA-01 cannot be Complemented without Shinji's agreement I think this
is reality.

Can anyone confirm it?
